Ariane (Love in the Afternoon), Billy Wilder, 1956

Affiche américaine, Saul Bass, [s.d.]

Lithographie couleur, 108x70

"For this film about an older man and a young woman, Saul's advertising used the voyeuristic device of a partially closed window-blind, suggesting things hidden, if not forbidden, with which Wilder opens the movie. Bright, gay colors and dancing letters signal the playful nature of the film, while a cupid's arrow shot through two letters "O"s', which seem to kiss, spells the romance." (Saul Bass : a life in film & design, Jennifer Bass, Pat Kirkham, 2011)
